What inspired you to start your blog?

I had this bucket-list with the goal to do a triathlon by age 40! I was excited to be losing my baby weight after baby #3 and training for my triathlon. I had already found like-minded people online and was an avid blog reader who loves to write, so why not? Plus, I knew my husband didn’t want to hear about it anymore!

What’s the goal/mission of your blog?

I love sharing tips and tricks that I’ve learned for juggling it all, working full time, traveling around the world, being a mom of three little kids, and training for races. I love to connect with others online and hopefully motivate them, just as they motivate me!

Is your blog your full time job? If not, how do you balance your time?

No, I work full time in the arts! I’m passionate about my full-time career as an orchestra manager. I write for my blog and a running website at night after my kids go to bed, then wake up early to exercise. It’s definitely a balancing act!

Any funny/memorable rookie mistakes or lessons learned along the way?

Over time I’ve learned more about blogging and social media. I really love the whole social media fitness and health world – it’s so inspiring! I think my rookie mistake were probably being clueless about how to take good photos when I started the blog – I think the first photo on the blog is a horrible picture of unattractive shoes!

How do you keep a healthy mind?

I try to always keep learning and to keep an open mind. It’s healthy to realize that you don’t know everything and others have a lot that you can learn from.

How do you keep a healthy body?

Trying to eat as if food is “fuel”, while also balancing some enjoyment in the “intake” so that it’s not a deprivation approach. There are so many amazing, creative and healthy foods to enjoy – I find when I eat cleaner, I get more creative with my ingredients.

How do you keep a healthy spirit?

My kids keep me happy – finding time to enjoy the little moments with them, like cuddling on the couch or tossing a ball outside.

What’s your secret to staying motivated?

I try to keep my eye on the prize – I’ve lost 50 pounds through fitness and healthy living and I feel as though I’m living the athlete life I’ve always dreamed of. I sign up for new goals and races to keep myself motivated. I have found that maintaining weight loss is hard, even with great motivation, so I have to stay focused!

  1. A GPS watch to save time mapping out routes

  1. Borsari seasoning: Seasoned salts
  2. Larabars: Gluten free fruit & nut bars
  3. Honey Stinger: Energy bars, protein bars, energy gels, organic waffles, organic chews made from organic wildflower honey

What 3 items can’t you live without?

Besides my three kids? My cell phone (yes, it’s true), my passport, and my running shoes.

Given all the time, tools and fresh ingredients, what would you love to try in the kitchen?

I’d love to develop some great make-ahead or slow cooker meals that are healthy and delicious. I’m a busy working mom and many recipes for slow cooker meals aren’t as healthy as the things I prepare fresh so it’s always a struggle.

What recipe have you been dying to master but still can’t get exactly right?

I had been trying to master a great Thai curry sauce, but I haven’t attempted it since we discovered my youngest son’s allergies. I’d love to get back to Thai cooking with allergy-safe ingredients!

What’s your “secret ingredient” or what do you find yourself constantly using in the kitchen and why?

Borsari seasoning – we use it in so many things!

What are you excited to or hope to acheive in 2015?

I had years of pregnancy, nursing, and a weight loss rollercoaster and in 2013-14 I got in the best shape of my life and achieved a 50-pound weight loss. In 2015 I’m just excited to get a chance to live and enjoy a healthy and fit life!
