When did you start your blog and what inspired you?

I started my blog in June 2014. My primary inspiration stems from my past struggles with negative body image and eating disorders. I’ve been in recovery from anorexia for 5 years now, and my experience with fighting this illness has empowered me to pursue both physical and mental well-being, rather than trying to conform to society’s rigid conventions of beauty.

I’ve discovered that being open and honest about my journey toward healing can benefit, not only me, but others who have dealt with similar ordeals. I started this blog with the intention that, by speaking candidly about health, fitness and accepting all body types, I might encourage readers to find positivity within themselves, as well.

What’s your goal/mission?

My ultimate goal is to become a professional writer in some capacity – whether through blogging, journalism, social media, or maybe even publishing an e-book. I’ve just been passionate about the written word for as long as I can remember, and I would love to turn this passion into a full-time career eventually.

Is your blog your full time job? If not, how do you balance your time?

Currently, my blog serves as a hobby (although I hope to turn it into a professional endeavor someday). In addition to building my blogger platform, I also work as a freelance writer, copy editor and social media marketer for companies, websites and magazine publications.

Something only your best friends know about you?

I’m extremely sarcastic, and I have absolutely no concept of conversational filters. The people who know me really well can attest to the fact that I’m going to speak my mind, and sometimes it’s going to seem offensive, but I’m going to find it hilarious because sarcastic humor is the best humor (well…in my opinion anyway!).

What’s THE weirdest thing about you (because weird = AWESOME!)

My entire workout playlist consists of Broadway show tunes. But, hey, no shame — the musical theatre obsession is intense.

Something you’ve been dying to master but still can’t get exactly right?

I’ve seriously been wanting to get into yoga lately, but I just haven’t made the time for it yet.

Given all the time, tools and fresh ingredients, what would you try in the kitchen?

Tiramisu! Yes, I know it’s loaded with sugar. No, I don’t even care. Although, if anyone happens to have a semi-nutritious tiramisu recipe…send it my way, pretty please!

Your favorite thing to do on the weekends?

I love going on all-day nature hikes with my 2 favorite people: my boyfriend and twin sister.

What are you excited to or hope to achieve in the next year?

I hope to do more traveling within this upcoming year – New York City with my boyfriend, a road trip across the Pacific Northwest, or maybe even London to visit my best friend. The world is out there, and I’m dying to embrace its vast beauty and diversity.

What are 3 of your all time favorite blog posts?

The best blog comment/feedback you’ve ever received?

Recently, I wrote a blog post about feeling negatively judged sometimes for being passionate about exercise, and this amazingly “badass” fitness blogger left the following inspirational feedback:

“You go girl – I too am one of those awful people who incorporates exercise into her daily life – on top of working full-time, driving two teenage boys to their hockey – I manage to run, lift weights, deep water aqua size, yoga, pilates, and the occasional hike – I too feel the condescending stares and comments – I too am a freak of nature – how dare me be 50 years old and have a body like a 30 year old or younger – she be damned. However, I don’t feel shame, guilt or regret – I run with my head high and when I run by a person who acts like I’m a freak – I run harder to make sure they understand that ‘YES I AM IN SHAPE’ I guess you can say I have an ‘F….You’ attitude, and that attitude is why I will always include movement in my daily routine! Keep it up, and I’ll stop my rant right here!”
