Meet Cindy, the fitness foodie behind The Prickly Pearl blog and Undiscovered Kitchen Ambassador! Cindy started with a running blog to help her stay motivated, but has since branched out into writing about her love of food, fashion and adventure.
So where exactly did the name Prickly Pearl come from? For Cindy, it’s the blissful balance she’s found between her dueling personalities: “the first lady, shift dress, Emily Post, Audrey Hepburn, foodie, obsessed side, and the gorilla loving, Robocop, Batman, Cheese Fries, monster truck loving side.”
Food has always been a huge part of Cindy’s life and personality, from the time her mother would serve meals made with tender love and care to her own life as an adult, managing her desire to stay healthy with her love of all things delicious.
Cindy recently ‘outed’ herself and her Youtube channel (or vlog). Check out her very first video here:
When did you start your blog and what inspired you?
I started my blog in November 2012 – My initial motivation came from running. I really wanted to get into running, and had been finding my motivation and tips from other bloggers. One day, I decided that I wanted to give blogging a try for myself — and I haven’t looked back since then!
What’s your goal/mission?
My goal is to learn as much about a healthy and happy lifestyle as I can, and in turn, help others learn about health and happiness along the way!
Is your blog your full time job? If not, how do you balance your time?
I am full time high school teacher and when I’m not teaching, I am focused on blogging, vlogging, and exercising.
Something only your best friends know about you?
My middle name is Arely. Now everybody knows!
What’s THE weirdest thing about you (because weird = AWESOME!)
I am obsessed with squares (the shape) and I am a Russophile (obsessed with Russian history and culture).
Something you’ve been dying to master but still can’t get exactly right?
Running! I have been running regularly for the last 3 years and am still slow. It still does not come easy to me.
Given all the time, tools and fresh ingredients, what would you try to make in the kitchen?
I would love to make an amazing salad and some tasty roasted chicken!
Your favorite thing to do on the weekends?
I love to go out to eat, go for a hike or go shopping!
What are you excited to or hope to achieve in the next year?
