Meet Amanda, mother of four and founder of the Mommy Go Run food and fitness blog, and Undiscovered Kitchen Ambassador! For Amanda, running has been her escape, ever since she quit her pack-a-day smoking habit back in 2012 (GO Amanda!). A month into her new addiction she ran her first 5K, and less than a year later, her very first marathon! In less than a year, she had transformed her life and now her mission is to inspire others to do the same!
Since her transformation, Amanda has run three marathons – Four, if you count the one she ran on her treadmill! She has also run several half-marathons, plenty of 5Ks (both road and obstacle), and completed the Spartan Super even after dropping an Atlas Stone on her foot and breaking her toe two miles into race.
Amanda spent most of her life feeling “not good enough” in one capacity or another, so spreading her message to the world can be a challenge. But these days, she embody’s her superhero self especially after long days working on and fixing computers – she goes home and transforms into her alter ego: SuperMom!
What inspired you to start your blog?
I started www.mommygorun.com as a way to keep myself accountable in my fitness journey. Through my blogging I’ve been blessed to find an amazing community of people that I would have missed out on otherwise!
What’s your goal/mission?
My two biggest goals are:
- To lead by example. I want my children to see that a healthy lifestyle isn’t a “diet” and they don’t have to fit in to any stereotypes. They are as individual as they come and I will fight to ensure they see the beauty in their individuality throughout their lives!
- To show women that they are worthy, they are beautiful and they are capable of reaching their goals no matter what stage of life they find themselves in. If I can do it in all my imperfections, I pray I can inspire others to do the same!
Is your blog your full time job? If not, how do you balance your time?
I work full time OUT of the home. I try to prioritize and learn to say no. I just do what I can when I can. I’m learning to let go of perfectionism.
Something you’ve been dying to master but still can’t get exactly right?
Parenthood! Seriously, it’s a neverending learning experience! I want to become a better blogger as well.
Given all the time, tools and fresh ingredients, what would you try to make in the kitchen?
EVERYTHING, I would love to completely eliminate all processed foods.
Your favorite thing to do on the weekends?
Cook, run, chill with my kids and KNIT!
What are you excited to or hope to achieve in the next year?
I want to become debt free and then pile on debt by buying a house!
What are your favorite artisan food companies?
What are your favorite foodie blogs/sites?
