Rumi Spice NEW ON UNDISCOVERED KITCHEN A Digital Farmers Market For Small Batch Artisan Food And Gifts

Did you know that saffron is one of the most precious spices on the entire planet? It’s an extremely labor-intensive crop retailing for more than $500 an ounce! Why is it so expensive? Each saffron flower has to be hand-harvested removing just three tiny stigmas from the center and carefully toasting them to dry. Believe it or not, it takes more than 80,000 flowers to make one pound of saffron (Wow!) Beware, just like gold, there’s a lot of saffron knock-offs out there.

Fortunately for us, the newest addition to Undiscovered Kitchen is Rumi Spice, an authentic line of high quality and sustainably farmed saffron loaded with antioxidants!


Rumi Spice was developed by a team of military veterans devoted after spending time in Afghanistan and learning about the lives of rural Afghan farmers. They’re on a mission to empower these farmers by connecting them directly to the international market and catalyzing economic development in order to make a difference, one farmer at a time!

There’s million different ways to use saffron, the more traditional of course being savory meat dishes, but this versatile spice can also be used to create unique cocktails and even cookies!

Saffron Vodka Cocktail Recipe


  • 1.5 ounce of Vodka
  • 1 can of Pellegrino (Lemon)
  • Kaffir Lime leaves for garnish
  • 3 strands of saffron
  • 1 cup of ice
  • 2 tablespoons of saffron syrup
  • 3 saffron threads

Saffron Syrup

  • ¼ cup of sugar
  • ½ cup of water
  • A pinch of lemon zest
  • 2 cardamom pods, crushed
  • saffron threads


  1. In a mixing glass add vodka, saffron syrup, and Pellegrino
  2. Stir mixture. Add ice to serving glass then pour mixture over ice
  3. Garnish with a pinch of saffron and kaffir lime leaves
