BBQ season is here! It’s time to breakout your KISS THE COOK grilling apron and get the gang together for a good old fashioned barbecue! Now of course, you can wing it and probably still have a great time, but as any good host or hostess knows, pulling of a great party takes a bit of creativity, preparation and making sure you’ve taken care of the ‘little things’ to make your guests comfortable, happy, and most of all, so they have as much fun as possible!
The Undiscovered Kitchen team has put together this year’s TOP 12 backyard BBQ essentials – we thought of it all so you don’t have to!
SPECIALTY COCKTAIL MIXERS:
Class it up this year with delicious, high quality cocktail mixers and give your guests the opportunity to make the PERFECT cocktail in 10 seconds or less! We recommend setting up a mixer station with a variety of cocktail mixers so that your guests can choose their favorite or try them all! Check out PINEAPPLE LIME COCKTAIL MIXER by Morris Kitchen which pairs well with spiced rum, tequila or simply add to soda water. For a tasty kick try this FIERY GINGER SYRUP by Liber & Co or the SRIRICHA MARGARITA by Cocktail Crate: Just combine 1 parts mixer with 1 part tequila, shake with ice, and enjoy!
MASON JAR DRINK DISPENSER DUO:
The Mason Jar Drink Dispenser Duo is the perfect way to keep your guests hydrated without running back and forth to the kitchen! Add ice water to one side and infuse that H2O by adding fresh cucumbers or berries! On the other side you can add some fresh juice for mixing or create a spirit infusion like rum punch or a sangria with fresh cut fruits inside! If you choose to have a non alcoholic drink on one side and an alcoholic drink on the other, use labels or mini hanging chalkboards to let guests know what they’re pouring (especially if it’s a kid friendly BBQ!)
You’ve probably seen or heard about the corkcicle, but if you haven’t, it’s a good thing you’re here! Why is the wine corkcicle this year’s party essential? I don’t know about you but when we host parties, people always bring over wine (in the summer, refreshing white wine!) but unfortunately it’s usually warm. So what do you do? Pop it in the fridge and wait… and wait… and wait! With the wine corkcicle, you can cut down the cool-down time and serve your wine much, much quicker! Party hack!
MOSCOW MULE MUGS:
The first time we saw the Moscow Mule being served at a bar, our immediate reactions was, WHAT IS THAT!? It’s a drink that makes an impression, is super hot right now and oh yea, it’s delicious! It’s also super easy to make an only requires 3 ingredients + ice!
Moscow Mule Ingredients:
- 1/2 lime
- Ginger beer
- Fill half of your Moscow Mule copper mug up with ice.
- Squeeze the juice from half a lime inside and drop it into the mug after.
- Fill it 2/3 of your mug with ginger beer
- Fill the rest of the mug up with vodka and stir!
Viola – You’ve got yourself a delicious Moscow Mule Cocktail and a great party!
ICE BUCKET WITH TONGS:
The ice bucket is this year’s backyard BBQ essential because it makes your life as a host MUCH easier! It’s convenient for guests and it keeps people out of your kitchen which means your floors stay clean … the pro’s just keep on coming! The alternative is obvious, just use a regular bowl but then you’ll find yourself running back and forth to fill it up as the ice melts and let’s be honest, you should be enjoying yourself not monitoring the ice status!
We recommend placing your ice bucket and tongs (ehmm.. keep your dirty fingers out of my ice!) next to the drink dispenser duo and cocktail mixer station.
GOURMET BBQ SAUCES:
What’s a BBQ without some delicious BBQ sauce? This one is easy but if you REALLY want your guests to leave with a happy belly and BBQ memories that’ll last a lifetime, you should pick your BBQ sauces wisely! This year people are craving UNIQUE! So give the people what they want – it’s all about flavor! We recommend Hak’s BBQ with flavors like Chipotle Bourbon, Habanero Pineapple, Thai Chile Tamarind, and Smoked Maple Mustard – Try all four flavors with the Hak’s Variety Pack. Another *HOT* pick is Deaf Man’s BBQ sauces with flavors including California Mild, Bourbon BBQ, XXX Spicy BBQ and the Smoky Sweet BBQ Sauce! Don’t forget to set up a BBQ tasting station for guests when you’re ready to serve!

PARTY FONDUE POT:
I know what you’re thinking … Isn’t fondue really hard!? NOOO! It’s not! It’s SUPER easy! The good news is that your guests won’t know that and will be super impressed by “all the effort you made” wink, wink! We recently tried it ourselves and picked up this 3 quart electric fondue pot – it was amazing! The best part about fondue is that it doesn’t require much once you’ve got your pot. We’ve even got a fondue hack for you: If you don’t have a fondue pot you can use a crockpot instead!
And once you’ve got your cheesy hot tub, cut up a loaf of your favorite bread and let your guests dip that dip they dip!
Fondue Recipe Ingredients:
- 1 garlic clove cut in half
- 1 & 1/2 cups white wine (your choice)
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1/2 pound grated Emmental cheese (2 cups)
- 1/2 pound grated Gruyère cheese (2 cups)
- Rub the garlic clove on the inside of your pot. Throw out the garlic afterwards
- Add the wine to your pot and bring it to a simmer (medium heat). DO NOT LET YOUR CHEESE BOIL, EVER!
- In a separate bowl combine the cheeses and cornstarch
- Gradually add the cheese/cornstarch blend to the fondue pot while stirring continuously (stir in a zigzag pattern not in circles)
- Continue stirring until the cheese is all melted and has had time to thicken
- Serve with your favorite bread and veggies (or just bread – yum!)
CANDIED BACON CARAMEL CORN:
Picture this, the meat is cooking and the backyard smells amazing – your guests are having BBQ dreams and getting impatient… Give them a quick and tasty fix with a bowl of this Candied Bacon Caramel Corn by Chunky Pig! … Yes, you read that right Candied Bacon Caramel Corn! Available with or without nuts in case anyone has an allergy.
This original recipe is made with Pure Vermont Maple Syrup & loads of Niman Ranch Candied Bacon! It strikes the perfect balance between sweet & salty with that irresistible popcorn crunch. Hormone free, gluten free & dairy free!
MESH SCREEN FOOD TENTS:
We LOVE our mesh screen food tents aka fly food protectors! Flies can be SO annoying when you’re eating outside and depending on where you live, they can really bring down the mood/appetite. Especially after you spend so much time prepping the perfect apps and grilling up your BBQ – don’t let the flies ruin the fun!
They’re essential, super easy to move so guests can serve themselves and of course, you can see exactly what’s in side unlike the “lay a napkin over it and hope it doesn’t fly away” method. They also look great!
S’mores are super fun and super tasty we find that actually making s’mores at a party can really be a hit or miss. From our experience, usually only a couple of people end up cooking the s’mores and serving the rest of the group. These gourmet, handcrafted and chocolate dipped s’mores by Sweet Lydias are the PERFECT way to combine everything you love about the s’more without having to deal the mess and moving parts of the operation. They’re a BBQ essential for DELICIOUS s’mores. They come in 6 packs and in the following flavors
- Classic Vanilla
- Peanut Butter
- Toasted Coconut
We suggest cutting them in halves or bite sized quarters so your guests can try more than one flavor!
CARDS AGAINST HUMANITY:
NEED. WE. SAY. MORE?! Cards Against Humanity is the perfect game for groups large and small. It’s great because it’s super easy to pick up for new players, easy for people to jump in and out of as they’re socializing and it’s great even if your guests don’t know each other that well … by the end of the game all they’ll know is that they had a GREAT time with everyone!
TO-GO GUEST CONTAINERS:
This is a BBQ essential for the end of the night! Why? If you’re anything like us, we like to send our guests home with leftovers (there’s just not enough room in the fridge!). But we hate wrapping up paper plates and your guests hate it too – they usually end up spilling in the car on the way home or soaking through the paper – it’s an all around mess! Cheap plastic to go containers make the process MUCH easier and are super convenient for everyone involved. The perfect ending to the perfect back yard BBQ!
